Daniel de Vita – Lost in Translation (Veröffentlichung Juni 2020)

Der 32- jährige Bluesgitarrist und Songwriter Daniel de Vita aus Buenos Aires ist seit vielen Jahren fester Bestandteil der Bluesszene in Südamerika. Er hat bisher drei sehr unterschiedliche Alben veröffentlicht. Mit „Southside Blues“ (2015) dokumentierte er seine Verbundenheit zum rauen Chicago Blues und dem Plattenlabel Chess Records. Die Aufnahme dieses Albums erfolgte nach der gleichen Methode wie sie bei den historischen Bluesaufnahmen dieses Labels angewandt wurde. 2017 folgte ein gemeinsames Album mit dem brasilianischen Gitarristen Netto Rockefeller und dem Chilenen Jose Carrasco („Third World Guitars“). Nach einem Livealbum, welches bei dem Festival BluesBaltica im niedersächsischen Eutin aufgenommen wurde (2018) und vielen weiteren Auftritten auch in Europa, folgt nun im Juni 2020 sein viertes Album „Lost in Translation“. Er präsentiert mit seinen musikalischen Weggefährten erstmals eigene Songs, die in den Embirrizados Studios in Buenos Aires aufgenommen und abgemischt wurden.
Das Album startet mit zwei pumpenden Bluesrock-Stücken („Every time I’m close to you”und „My sweetest Regret“), jeweils schön untermalt von der Hammond-Orgel von Nicolas Raffetta und der starken Blusharp von Nicolas Smoljan. Nach einem getragenen Slowblues („Sand between your Fingers“), der durch die Temposteigerung zum Ende hin beeindruckt, folgt das erste von drei Instrumentalstücken, „Black Chicken 37“. Es entsteht der Eindruck, als habe sich dieses Stück im Zuge einer Improvisation auf einem der vielen Konzerte de Vitas entwickelt. Der 5-minütige, teils funkige Jam enthält schöne Solopassagen von de Vita an der Gitarre und Nicolas Raffetta an der Orgel. Das Stück „Breaking the Praise“, das von einer schönen Slidegitarre geprägt ist, ist auch wegen der vielen gelungenen Tempowechsel eines der Höhepunkte des Albums.
Das Gitarrenspiel de Vitas ist variantenreich und dabei gefühlvoll. Seine Riffs sind einprägsam und auf den Punkt gespielt, wobei er auch den unterschiedlichen Stimmungen der Songs gerecht wird. Das Solo auf „ 6 Year Blues“, einem langsamen Blues, sticht hier heraus. Auch seine Stimme mit teilweise leicht südamerikanischem Akzent kommt gut zur Geltung. Die Texte des Albums befassen sich wie viele Bluessongs mit enttäuschter Liebe (z.B. „6 Year Blues“) und Enttäuschung („Sand between your Fingers“), aber auch tiefer gehend mit den Auswirkungen auf die menschliche Seele („California Rocket Fuel“). Daneben gefällt mir auch der Humor in den Songs, etwa bei „She claps on the 1 & 3“, einem klassischen Rock’n’Roll-Stück.
Insgesamt gesehen habe ich ein sehr gelungenes modernes Blues-Album mit leichten Ausflügen zu Funk, Americana und Alternative gehört, das aber nie seine Wurzeln verleugnet. Das Album beweist, dass Daniel de Vita und seine musikalischen Mitstreiter (neben Raffetta und Smoljan noch Mariano D’Andrea am Bass und Gabriel Cabiaglia am Schlagzeug) verschiedenste Spielarten des Blues beherrschen. Das Album wird wegen der gelungenen Einbindung auch anderer Musikstile nicht nur den Puristen gefallen. Ich hoffe, dass wir ihn bald mit seiner Band wieder live auf unseren Bühnen begrüßen können!
